The Deception
A departure of state of mind,
you turned your back without so much
as one glance.
Hands held dear in memories
shatter and bend
in bitterness.
Innocent at first to the world
then deceit shone its light
and illuminated your face.
Tell me you don’t know of
the horrors you’ve embraced
with open arms.
Knowledge is the greatest gift,
until it tells you
your greatest fear.
Chasing nightmares in folly,
you’re blind to our pain,
my pain.
You can love, but please,
don’t choose him
over me, over us.
Monsters have no place in our garden.
Him or us?
How could you not know
the answer within your heart?
Years pass yet you deny,
refuse to acknowledge
that it was you.
It was you who brought
the entire world crashing down.
It hurts knowing the truth,
but it kills me to learn
you lied.
I can escape you,
cut you from my world,
I’d just be returning
the favor.
Don’t lie anymore
I’m not so foolish
to believe a word you say.
I don’t think I deserve
this punishment,
But you will not change,
so we must.
We are more than people
we are your family,
we were your family.
Your lies cannot stop me
from living.
I will not falter in my path
For the life I dream of.
Corruption will only travel
as long as we fear it.
Like the greatest of birds,
we climb,
we soar,
and we die.
In time we all stray
from the paths that protect us.
It is our choosing to find our
way back, or
stay lost.
I will not turn my back
on you as you have
to me.
I will dream of the day
you see that the family
you deserted for a stranger
is still waiting.
