all carousel heartbeat and cotton candy smile
on ballerina toes she glides
over sticky sidewalks
and cracked concrete
leaving a technicolor trail behind her
fast but not fleeting, she illustrates the difference
with pipe organ lungs and cherry tongue
and sweet sugar teeth.
she is colored lights in a dark space
all pin-stripes and polka-dots
a spinning rush of sounds
caramel corn laughter
and bottle rocket songs
to match the bright fireworks of her eyes.
all dust and dirt and glitter
she dances like sparkling electricity
in a whirl of ticket-stub confetti.
