We trudge along
Through piles of soft snow
Your delicate naked paws
Must be so cold
Your soft orange fur
Is completely soaked through
And your little pink nose twitches
When snow flakes flutter on it
But neither of us care
About the piles of snow
Or the patches of slippery ice
Not even the budding fog
Creeping over us
We travel along
Slipping shuffling sliding
On the cold ice covered cement
Your tiny legs are strained
As you attempt to walk beside me
I look down at you
And you look up at me
And I point out that
The journey is the reward
Your big green eyes
Glance away from me
You’re uninterested
In the boring remarks I make
Your only concerns
Are the clumps of snow
That you eagerly pounce on
And the warm welcoming house
That you will now call home
