A Boy

The loss of a friend
streams into his
anger of abandonment.
The nothingness he
feels shows he is
different. He is in
hiding for he fears
someone will notice
that he's broken.

The disguise helps
him hope for the
safety he once had.
He remains calm as
his happiness slips
through his fingers.

The beautiful world
is swept away,
and he continues
to wear the mask.
