the smell of pear soap
and the prunes of my fingers
water catching in the tips of my yellow rubber gloves
I roll up my sleeves
my hair is pulled back
the hot water leaves condensation on my face
and the sound of clinking in the sink
I don't hope to be done soon
I can enjoy the peace of labor
