Scar Tissue
I discarded old sheep’s clothing
Threw off vestments of pretense,
Ditching days of subjugation
I climbed down off the fence.
Running scared was fruitless labour
That numbed the mind in cold restraint,
So came the time of resolution
Time to don some fresh war paint.
I oiled well the rusty armour
Polished weapons of required skill,
And rode headlong into battle
Replacing failure with goodwill.
With naught to fear but fear itself
If I fell along the way,
Battle scars I wore with dignity
Goals grew closer every day.
Now I celebrate my living
Acclaim progress that I’ve made,
Life emboldened and impassioned
And completely unafraid.
