"So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be."

skin
stretched over bony knuckles
wrinkles rolling over joints
that crackle while in motion.
cells intertwined to make
smooth tissues and
functioning organs.
the tissues, over time,
become rough from use
scarred from memories
embedded deep within
the confines of these hollow bones
resting on soft marrow
and feasting on one another

in their free time, though,
the memories play music,
their instruments being
heartstrings and my piano-like ribs,
and dance to the sounds
inside my tight veins

but their real home
is my mind
and that's where they go
when they tire of my body
and when I'm lying awake
reliving them.
