Pink marks stretched out
Flowing like rivers
Crashing against the bank
Of the pale surface
You call
Skin.
Red lighting
Zigzagging, streaking across the surface
Striking everything in its path.
Exploding into a million tiny lines
That form across
The stomach of a mother.
Proof of something beautiful,
A piece of art formed by the very skin protecting
The real masterpiece
Inside.

We were discussing birth in my humanities class and it got me thinking about all the side effects that pregnancy has on a woman and how they view pregnancy and all the side effects on their body.
