Before the sounds of day.
The deep dark silence—
it’s impossible to hear it
during the hectic liveliness of the day.
It’s a time when nothing is moving,
nothing is making noise,
nothing is awake.
There’s the occasional chirp of a distant cricket,
the quiet car passing from time to time,
the pitch black of the night.
It’s a cold feeling,
a feeling of no sunlight,
and you know it will be hours
before you feel the warm glow again.
Before the sounds of daytime come back into play.
Before the awakened people head off to work,
and before birds are flying about.
All you can do is wait
for the silence to be over.
For right now,
it’s only 3 a.m. in the morning.
