I went back to the woods to relive my youth
Between the twisted vines and paths that now exist only in memory
When did I stop going there?
When was I taken from the fields of innocence and sent to the city of Life?
When was it that I no longer felt the pull of fluttering leaves
and meadows
Where I could let my imagination run wild
Now the only pull is that of the wagon be hind me
My weight thrown into the harness
A wagon filled with responsibilities and rational thinking
I cannot stop
Else it become stuck in the deep holes in this road of Life
A road that runs alongside the woods of years long past
Never entering
But the blinders I wear help me forget those happy days
Filled with magical sunlight and enchanted worlds
Yet all it takes
Is a single step off the road
For happiness should not be a thing of the past
And the woods will always be there
Waiting
To welcome me back

Thanks!

I read your poem and though I didn't like the first half much (to me it just didn't quite make sence) the end was really good! :)

I love this. It makes me sad, and it makes me think of all of the simple things I have left behind for this new world of technology and never taking time to just sit and listen. Your poem is a reminder of just how important imagination and simplicity are - and it also reminds me that those things will always be waiting and welcoming. Thank you!
