The Snow Globe

I found it in its abode.
It came from the past.
From my childhood.

It’s heavy like a freshly throw baseball.
A sphere of happiness and snow.
With as many memories
as a supercomputer.
It’s smooth as silk.
Round as the Earth.
Yet tasteless and odorless.
It appears the same
from virtually every angle,
except when viewed from below.

To the untrained eye,
it looks quite ordinary.
But it seemed larger than life
at the time of its arrival.
When you shake it,
its appearance suddenly changes.
Pieces of white float around
in the unknown liquid.
It resembles a blizzard
in the nation’s biggest city.

It is constantly in a state of flux.
Just like me.
We both wish to escape our prisons.
We both seem so uniform and ordinary
to the naked eye.
Big we appear big to the minds eye
in character and spirit.
We are both cherished by certain few individuals,
but it is those people that make all the difference.

My memories of going to Vacation Bible School as a kid inspired me to write this poem because that is where I originally got the snow club from.
