Life Lessons
In sixth grade
I got in trouble,
It was the first time I got grounded on the nicest days of summer
In seventh grade
I knew a cop
By his first and last name
In tenth grade
I knew what being arrested was like,
When I was put in the back of a squad car like some crook with a bad attitude
Now 17 years old and in my senior year
I knew what jail and court was like
Getting arrested often because I can’t control my compulsive behavior
Now I think to my self, today is the day
When I learn to grow up
Take responsibility for my actions
Before I find out what life is like in prison.
