Where I'm From

Where I’m from, some people have no idea.
Changing who I am just to impress people.
Suffering because if I don’t achieve what they want to see, I’m considered a failure.

Where if I’m right no one remembers, and if I’m wrong no one forgets.

Where I’m from you have to earn love.
To be hugged you have to do something right and be good at something.
Injuries come from that, physical ones.
I push myself to the limit, I have eternal neck and head injuries,
Just so I could be called great, and get a hug.

Where I’m from, soccer is everything.
You have to have the speed and the moves or else, you aren’t considered good.
You have to sacrifice your whole body, just to get a ball.
and if you get injured, it doesn’t mater, you have to suck it up and keep going.

Where I’m from, you have to be pretty.
I look at myself in the mirror everyday wishing I could look different.
Wishing I could fit in with everyone,
and that no one would judge me.

Where I’m from, you need to prove you can stand up for yourself.
Prove that you’re not weak, and that you can fight.
To prove that you’re not scared to go against anyone.
To prove that you can do anything without fear.

Where I’m from, all you see is yelling and fighting.
Screaming and pleading.
Yelling so loud you forgot what you were talking
all because you’re trying to shut the other persons sound out.

All this, is where I’m from.

Good job K-G! The poem is powerful, but it lacks happiness.
