The Day A Chance of Peace Died
“Phonies must die, says the Catcher in the Rye”
A man had once said
And on that dreadful December 8th
Peace was pronounced dead
The man went by Holden Caulfield
A name he fed to his mind
Found in a fictional story
Indeed what a tragic find
Peace went about his day
Just like it were any other
But on that cold, December night
It would not end like any other
Holden waited in the dark
For Peace to arrive with his Love
On the outside Holden seemed alright
But Peace could not see beneath Holden’s glove
As Peace turned his back
Something in Holden had cracked
Holden pulled out a gun
Then violently, Holden attacked
Peace. The only thing left
Had died way too soon.
The world seemed to end
In New York under the moon
In My Life, Peace had not been Given A Chance
It was killed before it ever could
His life was cut off way too short
Like no one’s ever should
No. I will not “Imagine there’s no Heaven”
It’s not easy if I try
Because that’s where I want Peace to be
Above us in the sky
