There's nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein. ~Walter Wellesley "Red" Smith

Gliding through the thick soupy night sky, soars an owl,
it’s eyes wide and awake in the day’s latest hours.
It searches
calling its forlorn yet mystifying song,
only to be lost in the light breeze.
Beneath
in the forest
a young tree fights against it’s older and taller peers
hoping for a small taste of sunlight
to drop against its weathered branches in the coming day.
Only a couple of miles away, a black road seems to stretch on forever,
entirely empty except for a lonely pair of headlights,
piercing through the inky night.

In English we were assigned to write a piece of poetry based on some sort of sign. I really enjoyed this project, and was very proud of my work, so I decided to post this. We were supposed to take the sign to a very basic level, and to think about what we might see the sign as if we had never seen the sign before. I hope that this poem will make people think and inspire people to try writing this type of poetry.
