Of Burning Candles

a fly
crept into the wax

today
of a burning candle

the unyielding flame
retched across her skin
wings scarred
eyes blinded
by the brilliance.

the fly
rested her head
on the surface
as the wax overwhelmed
her frame

she knew not of death
but of survival -
a mechanism
carved into her genes
to protect her
from what
she could not comprehend.

she knew impulse,
flirted with desire
and
courted the sensations
flaring
through her existence

and of that,
she existed in moments

uncensored;
intervals unmeasured,

temporal nomad.

the flame kept vigil
silent -
casting shadows
in remembrance
as she slipped into
her resin tomb.

a twilight breeze

caressed;
carried swift upon
it's back

her soul
cast
toward constellations -
distant cathedrals
magnificent.

nostalgia:
memory reflected
in the pool

of galaxies

spinning

eager
to curl her back

into themselves

and birth perfection again.

a fly
crept into the wax

today
of a burning candle.
