Stalk
The lioness stalks it’s pray by day, a hawk by night.
Waiting ,watching,
the perfect moment
Strike.
Absolute silence –
tall grasses of the prairie, buzzards above already waiting for the kill.
This,
the stalk of the prairie
every animal
hunted
fear in their eyes; it is just a matter of time before the next one is stalked.
Boom!
Lioness strikes,
taking
down the unaware gazelle in one strike.
motionless animal grasped
in predator’s jaw—to the den—
Her cubs stuffed
leaves the carcass for the buzzards,
they hunker down for the cold winter’s hibernation.
