"We are born with two incurable diseases -- life, from which we die; and hope, which says maybe death isn’t the end."
- Andrew Greeley

i have had one taste
of your salty-sweet skin,
lapped gently at the soft solidness of your body,
loved the finite and fragile confinement
for the liquid soul swimming in your eyes.
now i will search for you
on every lonely shore;
i will fill each empty footprint
looking for your unique shape;
i will chase down unknown walkers
hoping to hold you again.

i will watch for you forever,
Lover i could not follow.

The author's comments:
Sorta inspired by the caption to a photo I saw, asking if the ocean remembers those who walk on it. Immediately this popped into my head. The last two lines make me sad, because it seems like something someone who loves me may one day say. :/ But we shall see.
Enjoy the work, and let me know what you think/feel about it.

You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love.
Henry Drummond

I could, again, totally relate to this poem.
