Humiliation
the fire in my cheeks,
the stinging in my eyes,
the catch in my throat,
the rock in my belly.
How can I fix this?
How could I let this happen?
the blood fills my face,
the stinging turns to ice,
the catch begins to break,
the rock grows and begins to flood.
How could I have been so stupid?
How could I let this happen?
the fire on my face lies
underneath a fresh coat of snow.
the broken catch is a sob,
rocking my ocean to and fro.
How could I have been so naive?
How could I let this happen?
the burn fades,
the snow melts,
the catch fades,
the ocean settles.
How could I think this was my fault?
