Melody of the soul

The melody that plays down the street
Reflects the fear in my heart.
For years I was under your spell,
But something happened that
made me see your true colors.
It frightens me.
And now,
Even though I know you're gone,
I still look over my shoulder
To check if something's there.
The image I saw that night
Is still burned into my mind.
While you bear a smile,
I bear the scars.
