To be what we have become is amazing
if our ancestors could see, they'd be in awe, just gazing
and to see what we've done as a nation, they'd be praising
we, african american, have come such a long way
although sometimes we may struggle with dismay
always keep your head held up high
black is beautiful and those are the words that i live by

being thankful for everything, i am truly blessed
but on the other hand, because of my color i can truly be stressed
but i try and keep a positive attitude
so i can show nothing but gratitude
im only human so sometimes it gets too much
thats when i call for god to be my crutch.
