The Hard Way
I learned the hard way
what my body was for.
I met a boy
a liar
who promised me nothing
and I let him use me
discard me
lie to me
because I desperately needed something.
I learned the hard way
that the open holes
lining my heart
would not close with
empty words.
Empty touch.
Empty feeling.
They were meant to be filled
with love.
The kind of love
that won't leave in the morning.
The kind of love
that doesn't make your skin itch.
Doesn't make the guilt swell up.
Doesn't make you wish
with your broken heart
that you could somehow get back
the innocence you threw out
like trash.
