Driving in the middle of the night,
The light from other cars’ headlights flash across his face
Revealing tears and frustration,
A mirror image of my feelings inside.
I reach my hand across the center console,
Take yours in mine,
And squeeze them together.
The only way I know to reassure you.
We drive on in silence.
