Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl myself to loneliness. - Maya Angelou

When darkness comes upon my eyes
I can not see what I know is around me
I can hear
But what I hear is silence
I listen closer
I hear a steady beating
Thump, thump, thump
I hear a steady intake then release
These sounds are soothing

Now the darkness is all I see
A steady beating and intake then release
Is all I hear
I can travel deep
Then deeper in to darkness
Until I am in a sea
A deep sea of everything
Everything I want
Everything I hate and fear
And everytning I love
I am asleep

I wrote this poem right after I moved to a new place where I didn't really know anyone so I was kind of depressed and this somehow calmed me. I don't know how or why.
