Who are you to judge the way i live? I know im not perfect and i don't live to be. But before you go pointing fingers, make sure your hands are clean.

The monster in the closet,
Comes out every night
To face a little girl, enveloped in her covers
Holding on with all her might

The monster in the closet,
Doesn’t show himself upon the light
Patiently residing in the darkness
Ready to shower the helpless girl in fright

The monster in the closet,
Tells her it will all be okay
Shut your mouth, I’ll be gone soon
Dare you scream, I’ll make this your last noon

The monster in the closet,
Drowns out all hope for tomorrow
Charges his attack, breaks her to pieces
Then staggers right out, as if her soul was only to borrow

The monster in the closet,
Should be her biggest fear
But during the day, he pastes on a smile
Holds his head high, tells her she’s a divine child

That monster in the closet,
Is the hurricane in a little girl’s life
Uproars on her nights, leaves scars of strife
Screeches words of pure venom
Shoots out pain and leaves pure anguish

But she never screams, never tells
She closes her eyes, and prays for it to end
Just one word, and she could vanquish him away
But something in her knows she needs him to stay...

So the only thing she could let herself do,
Is look into the monsters eyes and say-
Daddy, I love you.

This poem is not based upon my personal experiences, but it can relate to many young adults and children who have dealt with abuse.

"il piu nell' uno," (according to Emerson, an Italian expression for beauty)

"Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality" ~Emily Dickinson

"The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain"
~Kahlil Gibran

This was a very good (although disheartening) poem. It is well written, and I love the metaphor of the monster. Also, the ending finished off the piece very well.
