I'm Not What You Think

By , O'Fallon, IL
I’m not that
Fragile child
You always make me
Out to be
I’m not made of china
Or glass
But I’m not sure you
Realize that
I’m bold and strong
And human too
I’m just the same
As you.
I want
And need
And desire
And dream
And long for the life
That was supposed to be mine
And I see the way you look at me
As if I’m a role model
As if I’m a delicate child
But you need to realize that
I make mistakes
I have regrets
I have fears
And I’m just the same
As everyone else
I’m not always the good girl
I’m not always the kind girl
I’m sometimes a mean girl
And always a dreamer girl
I want to party
I want to drink
I do bad things
I know I shouldn’t
So I’m not that china doll
You see
I’m just a caged bird
Waiting to be free.
