Guys Like You
You made me laugh out loud,
And say things braver than usual,
Uttering words that I kept safe,
Like locked text messages,
As if they were part of the weather forecast,
Laughing at my jokes,
Keeping conversation alive for hours,
Making me think there might be a chance,
Hopes bubbling up in my chest like a soda pop can,
After it’s shaken by someone who doesn’t care,
Whether it spills all over the new carpet,
Then you turn your smoldering eyes onto another, prettier girl,
And keep them there for hours,
Making her laugh out loud,
And say things braver than usual,
She probably thinks she’s special.
