On This Night of Nothing
The night sky bleeds
 a melody in my name
 In a cracking voice
 Which strikes the fading horizon
 And leaves the world to burn
 And sob with unfailing shame.
 The night sky did not see
 my wild hair ripple in the wind
 As I fled the world at dusk;
 And so the mournful voice will sing
 It’s melody for me
 And countless eyes will shut in peace
 On this night of Nothing.

 The groaning trees toast
 A drink in my name
 In overfilled glasses
 Which poison the ground
 And leave the dirt to spoil
 And grow flimsy, drunken flowers.
 The groaning trees did not hear
 My cries of oblivion and escape
 As I carved my wrists at dusk;
 And so the glasses will do
 Their toast for me
 And countless lives will be put to rest
 On this night of Nothing.

 The shadow girl twirls
 A dance in my name
 In awkward, tiny steps
 Which twist her ankles and crack her bones
 And leave the other victims unsaved
 And salty tears on confused, young faces
 The shadow child did not see
 My head drown in pillow
 As I shut my eyes at dusk;
 And so the shadow girl will dance
 Her tiny steps for me
 And countless girls will lose their hope
 On this night of Nothing.

 The angry moon throws
 A tantrum in my name
 In fuming, violent bouts
 Which threaten to shatter the forest floor
 And put the furniture in pieces
 And stain the couch in blood.
 The angry moon did not feel
 My throat swell in whisky
 As I met unconsciousness at dusk;
 And so the angry moon will throw
 His tantrum for me
 And countless dreams will flee
 On this night of Nothing.

 The glowing stars share
 A joke in my name
 In joined disgust
 Which gnaws at my heart
 And dangles in my mind
 And lures me to an early death.
 The glowing stars did not see
 My eyes roll back into my head
 As I left the world at dusk;
 And so the glowing stars share
 Their joke for me
 And countless tears will cease to fall

 On this night of Nothing.
