The Shadow in Your Trophy Filled Heart

By , bergenfield, NJ
You look at me with your loving eyes
And all I want to do is look at you the same
You hold out your loving and comforting arms
And for a second I wish that the past I could erase
But how can I look at you in the same way
When you gave her everything that was mine
You gave yourself away so many times
And now it doesn’t feel like it’s mine
I see the soothing ways you wrote you loved her
And the times you called her name
Everywhere. Every second.
Its an echo of your “mistakes”
And it hurts me every second that I am awake
And my dreams turn to nightmares because I can’t escape
From the pain and the betrayal
How does a lover see you as their life one day
And then toss you aside and see someone else in that way
The truth is simple
But I can’t say it
I cant bear to think it
Maybe just maybe.
I’m not as special as you say.
