Sometimes I Miss My Long Hair
sometimes I miss my long hair
the way it would stick
to the back of my neck on a hot day
the way you told me it
but never me
looked pretty
i remember I stood in the bathroom
in front of the mirror for half an hour
the scissors poised
i remember i just wanted to do something
something that you didn’t want me to do
i was tired of you telling me
what to look like
telling me
what my face would look like
with short hair
i needed something
anything
to validate
to myself
that i had a choice
