Daddy I only asked for your love.
Why aren’t you patient with me?
When to hug your feet why do you curse those evil words at me?
Daddy I only asked for your compassion.
How come you don’t kiss my booboos?
Why do you give me bruises instead of heal them away?
Daddy I only asked for your attention.
Why aren’t you at my music recitals?
Why do you not congratulate me on my test?
Daddy I’ll never ask for anything?
I’ve grown up to be thirteen and I’m strong without you.
And, I’ll walk out that door on my 18th birthday and never look back.
