I Wake Up Screaming

It seems like whenever I need to
Describe how I feel
I clam up
And my shell cannot open

Why is it that when I put
Up all my defenses to restrain
My crazy mind
It just gets worse
And like the tempest
My mind rages out of control
Across the grasslands of humanity
And all are mowed down
How sad for pitiful blades of grass

It makes me feel as though
No one will ever know me

It makes me feel as though
I am falling
And
This pit is so huge
And
The pendulum swings towards me
But it misses and swings past
And as it rushes into the yonder
I realize
That though it missed me on the way past
It still might hit me

I wake up screaming.

My father suffers from night terrors, and his dreams inspired me to write this poem.
