Under the Apple Tree
I leave my house and lock the door
I walk alone to our big, beautiful Apple tree
With my notebook under my arm
And a sandwich in a paper sack
I reach the tree and sit down
Shaded from the sun under the beautiful limbs
An Apple falls from the tree, I pick it up
I toss it in the air and watch it rise higher and higher
I look around me; suddenly I’m with Johnny Appleseed
Eating and planting nothing but lovely brown apple seeds
After planting awhile I sit down to take a short nap
I watch Johnny Appleseed poking at the soil
I’m jerked awake by a man with a longbow in his hand
“Get up quick” says Robin Hood as Little John helps me
“Prince John is coming to get us hanged!”
Next I know I’m running in the woods for my very life
All of a sudden I stumble, but a woman helps me up
I look at her and realize who this woman is
Harriet Tubman is who I’m with and I’m running for my freedom
I look up at the sky, something is falling toward me
The apple I’d thrown up lands in my hand with a plop
I’m back under the beautiful, big tree
I sigh as my wonderful day dream ends
I stand up and walk back to the house
Oh well, some dreams are just too good to last
I unlock the back door and go inside to help Mom
I eat some dinner and then go upstairs to bed
As I crawl in bed I think Oh how I can’t wait for tomorrow
