Simple Equations
all the poetry in my soul
 has been sucked away into the black abyss
 of math class.
 do now:
 FOIL love until all that’s left is an ex
 derive dreams down to zero
 find me the lowest common denominator of humanity;
 round to the nearest tenth
 take out your calculator and solve for peace
 break down the world into numbers and symbols and write me an equation for the human heart
 tell me the square root of life
 keep in mind the time limit
 you will be graded after class.
