Cake!
Frosting,
A Happy Birthday etched into the top layer of cake,
a birthday of happiness and celebration.
The song flowing out of everyone's mouth to fill the air in a sweet tone.
Presents surrounding the coffee table yelling out to every person saying “Open me!”
The cartoon wrapping paper hiding the mystery in every birthday,
the, I wonder what that present is? expression plastered on every young child's face as they walk towards the large gift mound.
Sounds of ripping paper flood the room with nothing following it but “thank yous” and “There is a gift receipt in the box if you don't like it”
pictures taken,
hugs exchanged,
goodbyes all around.
Silence enters the house as everyone leaves.
The result of the battle between humans and presents remain in the front room
with a half eaten Cake in the kitchen, with a half eaten Happy Birthday etched into the top layer.
