Sadness
Sadness takes a heavy toll
On everybody young and old
You look over and see them crying
and can’t help but wonder
Is a loved one dying?
Or is a bully that doesn’t care
Making fun of what they wear?
Homeless people wandering the smoggy streets
Looking through trash for a scrap of food to eat
Even the old rickety swings
Where you and your friend used to play
Make you teary-eyed remembering the day she moved away
Sadness crosses our path every once in while
But every chance we get
We try to hide it with a fake smile
