driving around
our weekend detritus turns your car into the ocean floor
soda cans shine bright like schools of silvery trout
darting in and out between the piles of torn-up papers
that sit, scattered and spiky, like starfish
among anemone-bright pairs of discarded sandals
our brimming bags rest in the backseat
like basking whales-
mammoth and resplendent, floating belly-up
in the afternoon's week gray light
