Wave Memories
Warm wind brushes her body
unlocking memories from previous years
when she ran free
not bound by strong chains
of responsibility and knowledge
Waves turn and tumble onto each other
their bickering noises soothing her restless mind
and the wooden planks, swelled with sea,
remember her shape from years before
and cushion her fatigued body
from the salt water curling underneath
Soft moonlight illuminates her face
imitating her joy of teenage years
when she would sneak to the end of the dock
and express her self proclaimed rebellious ways
Scents of sand and sea and
weather worn wood
caress her overworked brain
tempting her to shut her eyes
against the star speckled sky
White foam crashes along the shoreline
but the noise fades in her ears
as the daughter who left a child
tumbles into sleep in the form of a woman
all grown up from years away
but found again in her favorite place
as close as she can get to the edge of the sea.
