I'm tired of being happy
It's just a lie
When we were little
That's all we believed in
Prince Charming
Pretty Princess
Fairytales that we made real life
We could be whatever
Just waiting to grow up
So that we could make those dreams realities
And we grew up
It's not a fairytale
Prince Charming ran away
He's just a coward
The pretty princess is the wicked stepmother now
Her crown was hiding her haggard face
Too late

The castle's burnt down
The dragon took over
The thrones are empty
When before we thought all we had to do
Was grow up
And we could claim them
Lies

And yet we're still happy
We think there's something to live for
We live for broken stones
And broken crowns
And empty thrones
And we call ourselves happy
Live our lives thinking it's the best we can make it
We can't be the Prince
But we can pretend

But pretend was years ago
We're past pretend
It's all real now
There is no magic anymore
There is only life
There is only reality
The dream is gone
Wake up, people

You don't need the castle
You don't need to be pretty
Or charming
You don't need a sword to slay the dragon
You don't need to pretend to be what you're not
Because you're not
End of story

I'm tired of being happy
I'm tired of pretending
Let's pretend we're living
See how your story ends

It occurred to me one day while listening to a sad song that that's what our lives are: sad songs. Without the thing that makes us live, we can't live.

Um.....I don't quite remember...it was such a long time ago, and Teen Ink FINALLY accepted it...I wish I could tell you, because I'm trying to remember myself....I don't know what the song was...sorry....but thank you, though! :)
