There's plenty to dream about
when the summer days
long, hot, but comfortable, are so busy with the company of love

These summer days
spent with the loved - playing, singing
sweating the seconds out of every hour - these summer days
rise with the sun, as high as it has ever grown.
It should fall, eventually, without gravity beyond the horizon.

Friends and family still sharing each other
squeezing their moments, their seconds.

Every moment is present.

The sun is bound to its course.
There are no regrets.
All that can't be seen is still there-
it's just quieter.
The day's moments become memories,
as shadows come together-
they meld, they cover, but the sunset breathes.

Those shadows are what remains in the quiet
between thinking and remembering.

Everyone says goodnight,
not goodbye.
Tomorrow will come
even if the sun should lay low, the air grow cold.
That night, one fire is kept
in its place.
It fades slowly-
eyes close tightly.
They relax, comfortable, now in dreams
burning with night's last light.

This started as a steal-a-line, which was soon replaced. It's a fair shot at free verse poetry, and I hope there's enough meaning here for you, the reader. Simple enough, no hidden meanings (I don't think).
