Daddys Girl
Awaken by the sound of fear,
My mothers voice and face appear,
My eyes creek open,
My arms slay back,
The unpleasant surprise,
The unruly attack,
He was going,
Far away,
To a place,
Where he did not want to stay,
The car ride there,
Was a trip to be,
Stained in my memory
On a plane,
Over the sea,
Was the place,
He had to be,
My dad had gone,
Far away,
To a place,
I don’t want him to stay,
Where people don’t care,
And things are not nice,
The scene of it all,
The war and the fights,
The thoughts of my daddy,
Coming home from such a place,
Coming out of the plane,
With a grin upon his face,
His smile is vibrant,
His face such galore,
His hugs as big,
As they where so long before,
I heard him say,
I heard him speak,
The very first time,
In 52 weeks,
He said he was glad,
To be back,
From that awful place,
That terrible attack,
I’m proud to say,
My daddy was a soldier,
Who fought,
In Iraq
