A diamond, a ruby, an emerald,

is just a rock.
Nothing more,

nothing less.
"Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder?"
What makes a diamond,

better than any other stone, a pebble on the side of the street?
Nothing. A diamond doesn't look
any different than
any other rock, when you find it.
How do you know,
it's true beauty?
It's true wealth?
It's true worth?
A diamond is nothing
extrordinary, when you find it.
But if you look closer, you might find
something worth looking for.
You just have to polish it.

This poem is about looking beyond the surface, and also beyond what everyone else thinks. You can't tell who a person is just by looking at them, and you can't let other people decide that for you, either. You have just have to look farther than that.
