we forget the beauty in one another-
Your eyes use to gaze in such a way
Like soft flowing water
Trickled with passion
Like your lips
Stained with wine
Unlike wine their taste habitually bitter
Once I craved your taste
Soft peaches glazed by the sun
But now they are an insipid grey
Like my feelings
Empty
Like your stiffened eyes
We embrace like old friends, but nothing more
You a creature that I know all to well
Every movement, something I’ve seen before
Predicted by times passed
They way you comb your hair piece by piece
Which happens to be the same way you eat
I stare back transfixed in the same day
This day that never seems to end
You speak of drapes and cream colored wallpaper
I dream of how we use to be
Like two high school lovers under the setting summer sun with only the crickets to witness them
Sucking face in the park
Because we yearned for each others love
Endless
I thought
But as the leaves turn to brown
So did our minutes together
And those two high school lovers are like a pair of worn shoes in the attic
Forgotten amongst the dark
