You held me tight for years
You’re the greatest one a person could ask for
A lot of people call you bob, but to me – to me
I call you dad.

Things were bad for a long time
Yet, getting better
In the situation of life and death
It brings a family close
You’re home now,
Happy as can be
There isn’t a single night
I’m not thankful
For all the things I see
So as I take this poem to a close
I want you to know our love has a hold.

I was inspired to write this piece due to the fact my father was in a terrible accident three years ago and i've never gotten over it. he's home now, but it still hurts everyday knowing he was out of my life for a few months.
