My Beach
On rainy
And cold days
My mind slips away to the warm sun, breeze,
And sand
I can feel the sand
Soft and warm on the bottom of my feet
As I tread through the dooms
My beach chair in hand
I take long steps
Through the hills, shells,
And footsteps left by the many people that came before me
With every stride getting closer
To the salty waters
That never loses their gleam and glitter
When I first touch the water
It’s cold and crisp and runs through my toes disappearing as fast as it came
pulling the grains of sand back with it
The water washes over my feet
And leaves a thin layer of sand behind
Adding on and on, building up on top of me
Till I feel as though I am part of the ocean
Rolling and drifting
Along with it
The memories are rich
With visions of the sun setting behind the break
And the quiet noise of the waves
Crashing on the surf
And the sand, warm beneath my body
Yes, I tuck this place away
For those cold raining days
Where I slip away
Just the waves, breeze, sand,
And I
