The soft brown hair,
Glowing in the hot summer sun,
The tan rosy cheeks,
Pink from humidity,
The small, heart-shaped face,
Filled with emotion

The picture, small in size,
Filled with detail
Old in date,
Fresh with memories,
The small, innocent figure,
Had once wore the little red dress,
Captured by that delicate smile

It had never dawned upon me,
That a point in her life,
She was genuinely happy,
That the emotionless face
Was once filled with emotion

Not one characteristic of that 5’ by 9’ photo
Could resemble her today,
Her soft, delicateness wasn’t evident anymore
It was all gone, along with her personality,
I missed it, I missed it all,
I missed the grandmother I once never knew

An old photo of my grandmother inspired me to write this piece about how a picture can change your viewpoint on a person, in a way that you don't even recognize them.
