Running Under Electric Beats
Under hypnosis
Sedated by electric beats
Streaming through wire cords
Landing in my ear
And legs, on the move
Running down County Line Road
And arms swaying with
The rhythm of my body
It’s like I’m connected
To everything passing by
It’s like I’m infinite, forever
To be moving
Moving from place to place
From state to state
Unconscious to conscious
Illinois to Arizona
2000 miles apart
And I run, trying to be free
One foot in the air for less
Than a second
Before it hits the ground
I keep up this motion
Like a ticking clock
Like the beat in a rock song
Like the heavy breathes
In which I swallow
Massive amounts of air
Air what I feel
On my skin, on my face
Winding its way through
The tiny hair on my arms
And it surrounds
Covers me, protects me
It swallows me whole
And spits me out
Outside in nature
On the neighborhood streets
The sensation of sun
The feeling of running at night
Under a blackish, bluish sky
Under the moon
Under the stars
Under the light polluted sky
Sky, I feel skyhigh
Up so high in the sky
Hypnotized
Close my eyes
But keep on running
Running into insanity
Into a crazy world of
Hallucinations and delusions
Into a hospital ward of wide eyes
And large doses of medications
But no, that’s not it
I run for the sake of my sanity
For the fact that I don’t go crazy
Under this electric beat
Under this movement
Of running
