I can think of nothing but Bernini,
nothing but the veins on the hands of Hades
and how they grip at Persephone's flesh.

As you lie with your back to me,
your arm twisted careless to your face
and the sheets tangled around your legs,
I could carve you, gather you
from the same pale marble that breathes.

The author's comments:
The Baroque sculptor Bernini had an amazing talent for turning cold marble into a living, breathing human body. His virtuosity is astounding, and sometimes I wish that I could take someone and preserve an image of them, of that instant, forever with Bernini's sensual, beautiful forms.
