Write What You Know
“Write what you know”
Is what I have always been told
But, what do I know?
I know nothing of poetry.
I grab a pen and write,
I write of my life
My feelings
My culture
And about my family
But, I never considered it poetry
I viewed it more as a way
To liberate myself
A way to be myself.
Is that poetry?
What makes poetry, poetry?
The fact that it rhymes?
Does this rhyme?
No.
But, it’s poetry
Because it’s truth
And poetry,
Is truth.
