Turn back the pages till time begun
Where only voices of wind existed under the sun
Whispered through eternal trees
Whose song remains unsung

None could paint a picture so surreal
To capture to the timeless appeal
Of the peaks' tender secrets
They care to seldom reveal

The shadows are each called by name
One by one, stretched across the plain
Touching the mountains
Joining in nature's unseen game

While that blazing globule casts its sepia-gold
The flow of voices is slow to unfold
A hymn of tranquility
Its story untold

Illustrated by the hawk's graceful plume
United in mellifluous image and tune
Showing way to the earth's sanctuary
Lest she accept you into her womb

Lastly the sun descends from its zenith high
Dousing its flame with an archaic sigh
Shutting the earth's ageless tomb
And giving way to gentle night

Do not search for the reason you've come
Only look upon the wake of the sun
Let darkness rise
And listen until nature's song is done

This poem was inspired by the rocky mountainous backdrop of Boerne, TX illuminated by the fiery glow of the setting sun.
